"Life is messy. Love is messier." -Catch and Release

Meg Adeio has led a life of isolation—not by choice, by necessity—until one act of heroism forces her out of seclusion. Despite a past shrouded in mystery, Meg is “adopted” by an eclectic group of friends that become the family she never had. Life was good for the first time in…ever.

Or it was until Westly Black reappeared on her doorstep. She knew he was the last man any woman should give her time to—only good for one thing—yet a temptation no woman could deny. Wes might make her life messy, but Meg’s eyes were wide open and she had it under control. At least she thought she did.

When past and present collide, loyalties are tested, forcing Meg to sacrifice her future to protect those she loves.

Temper For You is a gripping story of regret, deception, and redemption – filled with raw emotion, sarcastic wit, intrigue, and love’s propensity to forgive.

Review

(For 18 and Older)

SPOILER FREE

Let me just say that I've never read anything from Ms. Genna Rulon before, so I was skeptical at first since I'm not usually a huge contemporary reader but after reading Temper for You I just fell in love with the author and her writing. Temper for You is part of Rulon's "For You" series which I had not read before. Fortunately, this story can be read as a stand alone since I had not read her previous two books. Nonetheless, after reading Temper for You, I'm definitely inclined to read the previous two books!

Ms. Rulon has a wonderful voice to her characters. Her writing style occasionally left me with stitches in my side from laughing which I didn't expect.  She definitely gets bonus points for making me laugh. Her dialogue with her characters are fantastic. I do feel that she could use a bit more distinctiveness between her character's voice since they sometimes sound similar, especially the girls. She is also a heavy dialogue writer, I didn't even mind or even realize until I had read through the passage. They were such quick reads that I didn't even care until afterwards, and even so, they are minor since it got straight to the point of the story. It is almost negligible to mention but I thought I should for those who don't enjoy lots of dialogue. Although, I'm not sure who would mind too much.

The characters and the plot are fabulous, the main two characters had their own little arcs from which they grew into better people. I liked it a lot. They weren't major growth compared to other characters and stories I've read but it was enough that I approved. I loved the history behind why Meg was the way she was, not going to spoil it, but I thought it was really good. I feel both Meg and Wes are strong and brave characters and they left me with warm fuzzies.

Speaking of warm fuzzies, the unconditional friendship, love, and relationship all the characters have together left me near catatonic from the adorableness of it. It was so sweet! I kind of wish I had that in my life! I'm sure I have close friends like that but the way they express and interact together definitely left me laughing and jealous fits. I'm so glad to read about the loving friendship they have because I feel that is lacking in books. It's all about competitiveness or jealousies. I love how this story is about overcoming these situations with close friends. So I want to applaud the author, well done!

For the record, 18+ rating wouldn't be because of the love scenes as I had anticipated. Don't get me wrong, they were steamy but not erotic. I feel like it's considered mature. This is also because of the language and issues the characters deal with.

My only complaints are relatively minor, I was a little confused at first at reading Temper for You since I was unsure about the history of the previous characters but for the most part the author was able to do a quick recap. Enough for me to understand. At first I wasn't sure if I was supposed to know Meg's history right away but then we learn it all later so I don't think the readers was supposed to know. Still, there was a portion of me early on where I was wondering if I was supposed to know what had happened to her and was left guessing for awhile.

Also, the conclusion nicely tied up most of the plot threads but it was more open than I preferred. It's a satisfyingly open conclusion. It's understandable since the author mentions at the end that the series would continue. In that case, I feel it's understandable to have such an ending but I usually don't always like them. Overall, the ending was good but more closure would have been nice for me personally.

Overall, I thought this book was fantastic! I had my heart strings pulled one scene and then I laughed a lot the next. The characters, writing, and story were top quality in my book! If you enjoy stories about overcoming physical and emotional obstacles with strong and unconditional relationships that leave you feeling warm and fuzzy, then I think this is the series for you!

4.2 out of 5 rating for me!
